Stephen Foster attended law school at the University of Texas, the highest ranked law school in the state of Texas. Shortly after being licensed in the state of Texas he accepted a position with Alvarez, Notzon & Gutierrez, which was one of the premiere civil law firms based in South Texas.

His first job in criminal law was as an Assistant District Attorney serving Webb and Zapata counties. He was hired by Joe Rubio, a Democrat.

His service in Laredo brought him to the attention of Bexar county District Attorney Susan Reed and her staff. He was hired by Susan Reed, a Republican and was placed immediately in her criminal trial division.

While in Criminal trial division he served as first chair prosecutor in county court #9, where Judge Oscar Kazen set a record for the most jury trials tried within a six month period. Stephen Foster was responsible for prosecuting them all.  After serving in county court #9 he was placed in a special position where he would try cases in any court which needed a prosecutor. If a prosecutor was sick or busy on another case, Stephen Foster was the man that was trusted to try the case.

In 2010, Stephen Foster was recognized as a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers, Law and Politics magazine and Texas Monthly.  This is a recognition that is limited to at most the top 2.5% of attorneys in a given category.  This recognition came as a result of many high profile court victories against both the Government and large mega-lawfirms.  In some of the business law victories Stephen Foster's clients were outspent 50 to 1 or more.

Stephen Foster is a member of the San Antonio Trial Lawyer Association.  The San Antonio Trial Lawyer Association is a private organization with very strict rules and standards for its members.  Only attorneys that are respected by their fellow trial lawyers are asked to join.

Stephen Foster does not represent his clients alone.  He is very proud of the people with which he works.  He associates with attorneys and others that are regarded as the best at what they do.  The attorneys that Stephen Foster works with educate other attorneys about changes in the law and are published authors in the legal community.

The non-attorney staff members that Stephen Foster employs understand that doing an outstanding job 99% of the time is completely unacceptable.  Stephen Foster has demanding clients that correctly expect the highest quality of representation in all aspects of every case with no room for mistakes.

Working for Stephen Foster is a stressful experience and it is not for most people.  Some people get a deep sense of personal satisfaction from doing a job right.  Stephen Foster has retained a collection of those types of people and he understands that even though he gets most of the glory and thanks when he wins a big case every win is paid for with the effort of those around him.  Many people make sacrifices for every sucessful outcome, including the friends and families of Stephen Foster's employees.

The typical model for a law firm that handles high stakes litigation involves a large number of associates.  The associates are typically very new attorneys that are evaluated and judged primarily on the number of "billable hours" that they charge the firm's clients.  Stephen Foster does not have a large number of associates that he has to find work for, regardless of what an individual client wants or needs.

Stephen Foster handles more cases on "contingency" than most attorneys.  "Contingency" means that the client doesn't pay anything unless Stephen Foster gets money from the other side.  Generally speaking, Stephen Foster has found that it is most professionally rewarding to be in the same financial position as his clients.  Similarly, when Stephen Foster's clients do not receive large judgments or settlements it is not rewarding to hand a client a large bill.

It has been Stephen Foster's experience that any financial losses that might result from lost "billable hours" are more than made up for by the long term benefits of earning a reputation as an attorney that does what is best for his clients.  There are strict rules that the State Bar of Texas has put in place that limit when an attorney may take a case on contingency, so it might not be an option in all cases.

There are times when it is best for Stephen Foster to bring in another attorney to handle a portion of a case.  If there is a nationally recognized expert in a subspecialty of law or if there is an attorney that has handled a case that is almost identical to the current case Stephen Foster doesn't hesitate to have another attorney handle the parts of the case in which they are an expert.

Stephen Foster believes strongly that every individual that comes into his office deserves an attorney that will handle the case as if it were the attorney's own case.  Stephen Foster never charges for a consultation.  If you have any questions about your legal rights or what your situation is, don't hesitate to let Stephen Foster know.
